In response to the recent return of international tourists to Taiwan, the Pingtung County Government, in collaboration with the National Development Council, is actively promoting the "2025 Pingtung Public Transportation Bilingual Easy Go" project. By developing bilingual tools for key transportation hubs and tourist service centers, and enhancing the bilingual skills of frontline staff, the project aims to create a more friendly and convenient foreign language tourism environment. This will remove language barriers for travelers exploring Pingtung and inject new momentum into the county's sustainable tourism development.
To showcase the concrete results of the project, the Pingtung County Government held a "Bilingual Easy Go" press conference today (13th). In addition to inviting foreign friends to participate in actual travel dialogue simulations, the conference also demonstrated the results of service personnel using bilingual handbooks and translation apps to accurately solve transfer and transportation issues for attractions.
The Transportation and Tourism Department stated that this project targets 12 key public transportation and tourism service stations in the county, including the seven major transportation hubs and travel service centers in Pingtung City, Chaozhou, Donggang, Hengchun, Fangliao, Shuimen, and Haikou Port. Through on-site needs interviews, tailor-made bilingual-friendly auxiliary tools have been developed to meet the needs of staff. Among them, the "Q&A Category Question Set" handbook and the "Pingtung Tourism Pocket Guide" card, both featuring Chinese-English bilingual versions, allow frontline staff to immediately address various travel and transportation questions from foreign tourists, such as "Where can I top up my electronic ticket?" and "How do I take the bus to Kenting?". The presentation of bilingual handheld boards and surrounding guidance maps further effectively reduces language barriers. Through localized design and production, the project comprehensively enhances the convenience of practical communication with foreign tourists.
In addition, clear bilingual guidance signage has been added within the Pingtung Transfer Station, as well as platform stop identification and route guidance for each bus platform, and is distinguished according to the color identification planning of trunk line buses, in order to guide passengers to easily take different routes in a more visual way.
In addition to related bilingual auxiliary tools, the county government also emphasizes the improvement of soft skills for frontline service personnel. The project specifically held workshops on the use of instant translation apps for bus and taxi drivers and travel service center staff. The three courses in northern, central, and southern Pingtung were completed on September 15th and 16th respectively and received widespread response. The bilingual workshops reduce the fear of bilingualism among service personnel through lively practical teaching and challenge exercises, and even actual conversations with foreigners, so that they can easily handle various situations. In the future, whether it is answering questions about routes and fares, or dealing with sudden situations such as traffic changes and emergencies, they will be able to effectively communicate and solve passenger problems.
The county government stated that it will continue to deepen foreign language friendly services in the future and welcomes more tourists from all over the world to come to Pingtung to play, and to have barrier-free communication with transfer station or travel service personnel, and easily experience the unique charm and rich cultural customs of Pingtung.
